Multi-layer co-extrusion technology drives the performance upgrade of CPP films.
In recent years, the CPP film industry has been focusing on technological innovation, and multilayer co-extrusion technology has emerged as a key direction for industry-wide technological upgrades. By adopting a composite structure with 3 to 7 layers, functional materials such as barrier layers, heat-sealing layers, and support layers are strategically arranged between different functional layers, enabling comprehensive performance that cannot be achieved with a single-material approach. Currently, among the multilayer co-extruded CPP film products that have been successfully implemented in the industry, the oxygen transmission rate can be reduced to below 0.5 cc/m²·day·atm, and the water vapor transmission rate is controlled within 0.8 g/m²·day—fully meeting the stringent requirements for pharmaceutical packaging and food preservation.
During the production process, enterprises employ advanced equipment such as multi-screw extruders and static mixers to achieve precise control over melt temperature, pressure, and flow rate. The temperature control accuracy can reach within ±1℃, effectively addressing the common issue of uneven thickness often encountered in traditional production lines. Meanwhile, innovative applications of surface treatment technologies have significantly enhanced the adhesion between CPP films and printing inks as well as composite adhesives. The print adhesion has reached a level of 4B or higher, and the composite peel strength remains stable at above 1.2 N/15 mm.
In terms of application areas, in addition to traditional food flexible packaging, CPP films are gradually expanding their use into high-end sectors such as lithium-ion battery separators. Data shows that food packaging remains the largest application sector for CPP films, accounting for 42.3% of total consumption, while the pharmaceutical packaging sector accounts for 18.7%. High-end applications, including lithium-ion battery separators, now represent 15.2% of total demand. As consumer upgrading and stricter packaging safety requirements continue to drive demand, the market for high-performance CPP films is set to keep growing.
