Currently, the industry has successfully developed bio-based CPP film products—using renewable raw materials such as bio-based acrylic acid and bio-based plasticizers—that significantly reduce their carbon footprint. These bio-based CPP films exhibit a 35% to 40% reduction in carbon emissions compared to conventional products, while maintaining comparable overall performance levels.

Technological breakthroughs are driving cost optimization; the cost of bio-based CPP films has dropped significantly compared to previous levels. In particular, the cost of PLA (polylactic acid) films has fallen by 28% since 2020, and the price gap between PLA films and traditional PP pellets is gradually narrowing, laying a solid foundation for large-scale applications. In terms of production processes, companies have employed technologies such as compounding and modification to increase the proportion of starch-based materials to 45% without compromising film transparency. Moreover, nano-modification technology has enabled PLA to withstand temperatures exceeding 85°C, meeting the requirements of heat-sealing processing.

In terms of application scenarios, the substitution rate of bio-based CPP films in areas such as fresh-food e-commerce packaging and baby-care product packaging is steadily increasing. Currently, the substitution rate in fresh-food e-commerce packaging has reached 23%. It is projected that by 2025, biodegradable CPP films will account for 10% of the overall CPP film market. In the future, as technology matures and recycling systems become more robust, the substitution process will accelerate further, providing new momentum for the industry’s long-term development.
